The Nasarawa State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested an 85-year-old man, Ibrahim Haruna, for allegedly raping a four-year-old girl in Kongo, Keffi Local Government Area. The incident came to light when the victim’s elder sister noticed the child walking with discomfort and bleeding, raising the alarm. Upon questioning, the little girl narrated her ordeal, revealing the assault allegedly carried out by Haruna.
According to NSCDC spokesperson Jerry Victor, the suspect lured the victim into his room when no one was present, taking advantage of the situation to commit the act. A medical examination confirmed that the girl had been defiled. The case will be handed over to the state Ministry of Justice for further investigation and prosecution to ensure a swift trial. Haruna has denied the charges, claiming he was framed. Investigations revealed that the suspect and the victim’s family were neighbors.
**Cultists Arrested in Lafia with Weapons**
In a related development, the NSCDC in Nasarawa State has arrested three suspected cult members for harassing residents and causing destruction in Lafia. The suspects were apprehended in the Layin Yan Kaji and Super Cinema Street areas, where they had allegedly been involved in criminal activities. Items recovered from the suspects included two locally made pistols, live cartridges, ammunition, and tools such as phone pliers and scissors.
The arrests are part of the NSCDC’s broader efforts to combat crime and vandalism across the state. The command has reiterated its commitment to reducing cult-related violence and ensuring the safety of residents. These arrests follow a spate of cult clashes in December, during which six vehicles were destroyed, and a motorcycle was burned.
