Rising Nigerian singer, Gimba, has opened up about the challenges and pressures he has faced in his music career, especially after collaborating with prominent figures such as Wizkid, Olamide, Wande Coal, Sarz, and DJ Tunez early on. These collaborations, while an incredible opportunity, placed Gimba in the spotlight and raised expectations for him to maintain the same level of success with each new release.
He candidly shared, “As expected for a new artiste whose first ever song was with big names in the industry, there was so much pressure on me to keep up the momentum. However, I’m grateful that God is helping me navigate my journey through the industry. The journey is a blessing.”
Despite the initial pressure, Gimba has found a way to thrive, particularly with the release of his Extended Play album titled, Amince Da Tsari (Trust the Process). The EP has been well received, and Gimba revealed that it is a deeply personal project, with each song reflecting different aspects of his life and experiences. The first track, Nightmares, delves into how he managed the overwhelming pressure that came with his early success. He explained, “It is an attempt to share my stories with the world, beginning from the first track titled Nightmares, and which talks about how I handled pressure, to the other tracks. All the songs are personal to me.”
At just 20 years old, Gimba is not only passionate about music but also sees it as his way of making a positive impact on the world. He shared his motivation, saying, “It is a two-way thing. On one hand, it’s my own way of contributing towards making the world a better place than I met it by spreading love and happiness through my music. On the other hand, it is my only form of expression. Music is all I’ve got, and I take it personally.”
With his dedication and vision, Gimba is poised to continue making waves in the Nigerian music scene, while staying true to his purpose and artistic journey.
