Bayern Munich has issued an apology to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) after offensive banners were displayed by some of the home fans during their Champions League match on Tuesday. The banners, which targeted PSG president Nasser al-Khelaifi, featured a profanity and an image of his head crossed out. Additionally, some banners criticized his multiple roles, including being the president of PSG, the owner of the club, a TV rights holder, and a member of the UEFA Executive Committee and the European Club Association.
Following Bayern’s 1-0 victory, which saw them overcome PSG at the Allianz Arena, the club distanced itself from the offensive actions, making it clear that the banners were not authorized by the club and do not reflect Bayern’s values. In a statement, Bayern emphasized that the tone of the banners was not in line with their long-standing relationship with PSG and the club’s commitment to respectful international partnerships.
Bayern Munich also expressed regret over the incident, stating that they apologize for any personal offense caused to PSG and its representatives. The club further stated that such behavior contradicts the respectful culture Bayern has fostered with its partners worldwide.
Al-Khelaifi, who has been the president of PSG since 2011, holds several influential positions, including president of the European Club Association (ECA) and chairman of beIN Media Group. His leadership of PSG and his ties to Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) have made him a prominent figure in European football.
