Robert Ewa, the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture in Cross River State, has passed away. His death was confirmed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Nsa Gill. Ewa reportedly died on Wednesday evening at the Arubah Specialist Hospital in Calabar, the state capital, shortly after attending a state executive council meeting.
According to Gill, Ewa was actively engaged in the meeting, which was presided over by Governor Bassey Otu. “He contributed during the presentation but later excused himself,” Gill recounted. Ewa’s driver reportedly took him to a clinic, but it was only later discovered that he had been taken to the hospital.
News of his sudden passing reached the governor while the meeting was still in session. The governor was said to have received the news with great shock and expressed his sorrow over the loss. A formal statement is expected from the state government in due course.
Ewa was a prominent figure in Cross River State, with a career that spanned various roles in public service. He served as Secretary and later Chairman of the Boki Local Government Council, held the position of Special Adviser on Community Relations, and was Secretary of the Anti-Deforestation Task Force.
His contributions to the state, particularly in the tourism, arts, and culture sectors, were widely recognized. His sudden demise has left many in Cross River State and beyond mourning the loss of a dedicated public servant.
