Former Sokoto State Governor and current Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has sounded the alarm over the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party of deploying coercion, propaganda, and economic hardship to weaken the opposition and force defections. His words come in response to recent political realignments, which he argues are not driven by genuine belief in APC’s governance but rather by sheer survival in an increasingly harsh economy.
Tambuwal’s warning follows a rebuttal from APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, who dismissed concerns about the defections as unfounded. But the senator remains firm in his stance, asserting that the APC is misleading Nigerians into believing that these political movements signify good governance. According to him, nothing could be further from the truth, as the reality on the ground paints a picture of worsening inflation, deepening insecurity, and a skyrocketing unemployment rate that has left millions struggling to survive.
“The APC wants to create an illusion that these defections mean people are satisfied with their leadership. But Nigerians are suffering more than ever before. Under this administration, life has become unbearable, and no amount of propaganda can cover up the truth,” Tambuwal stated.
He went further to accuse the ruling party of resorting to intimidation and economic enticements as tools for maintaining political dominance, warning that such tactics threaten democracy itself. In his view, the APC’s strategy mirrors that of regimes that consolidate power by eroding opposition voices and creating a one-party state under the guise of democracy.
“Rather than addressing the real issues facing Nigerians, APC leaders have turned to what I call ‘survival politics’—where they exploit economic hardship to lure desperate politicians into their fold. This is not democracy; it is an attempt to tighten their grip on power while ordinary Nigerians suffer,” he added.
Tambuwal, a key player in the formation of the APC during his tenure as Speaker of the House of Representatives, expressed his disappointment over what the party has become. He lamented that it has strayed far from its original vision and is now controlled by self-serving individuals who prioritize personal gain over the welfare of the masses.
In a passionate appeal, the senator called on Nigerians to stay vigilant and recognize that the country stands at a decisive moment. He urged citizens to resist manipulation, emphasizing that the future of Nigeria depends on making critical choices that prioritize true leadership over deceitful political maneuvers.
“The APC should stop attacking those who dare to speak the truth. Instead of using hardship as a weapon to control the people, they should focus on fixing the mess they have created. Nigeria needs real leadership, not a government that thrives on hunger and propaganda,” he concluded.
