APC Chieftain Yomi Adelowo Backs New Lagos Assembly Speaker Mojisola Meranda

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and public affairs commentator, Yomi Adelowo, has thrown his weight behind the newly elected Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda.

Speaking to reporters in Ikeja, Lagos, Adelowo expressed confidence in Meranda’s ability to lead effectively, citing her extensive political experience and leadership roles in Lagos politics.

A Political Career Built on Experience

Adelowo highlighted Meranda’s impressive track record, which includes serving as:

  • Senior Special Assistant on Intervention and Inter-Governmental Relations in Apapa Local Government
  • Supervisor for Health in Apapa Local Government
  • Chairman, House Committee on Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) in the 8th Assembly
  • Chairman, House Committee on Establishment, Training, Pension, and Public Service
  • Chief Whip of the 9th Assembly
  • Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly

In addition, he noted her administrative experience from Bola Tinubu’s tenure as Lagos State Governor, where she served as a Personal Assistant to the SSA on Information Technology in the Ministry of Science and Technology. She also worked as Personal Assistant to the Director of the Land Information System Support Unit (LISSU) in the Surveyor-General’s Office, and later as Office Manager at Cirrus Nigeria, Lekki.

Furthermore, Meranda is the Founder/CEO of Worthline International Services Limited, a role that Adelowo believes has further honed her leadership skills.

An Unwavering Commitment to APC’s Core Values

Describing Meranda as a seasoned politician, Adelowo pointed out that she has always been loyal to progressive politics, having been a member of the defunct Alliance for Democracy (AD), the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and now the APC. He emphasized that her new role comes with great responsibility and urged her to uphold the core values and principles of the party.

He also praised her academic background, stating that she had shown commitment to excellence through her education. Meranda attended St. Charles Nursery and Primary School, Randle Primary School, Anglican Girls’ Grammar School, and Ansar-Ud-Deen Secondary School in Surulere, where she obtained her West African School Certificate (WASC).

Meranda’s Rise Amidst Political Turmoil

Meranda was elected Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly in January following the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa. While Obasa continues to challenge his removal, reports suggest that the Lagos Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) has been holding meetings to determine his fate.

With her extensive experience and a strong backing from party leaders like Adelowo, Meranda appears set to steer the Lagos Assembly through its next political phase.
