Arthur Jarvis University in Akpabuyo, Cross River, has expelled five students and suspended five others for engaging in bullying, truancy, and misconduct, reinforcing the school’s zero-tolerance policy on such behavior.
According to a statement from Acting Registrar, Lady Mary Dan-Abia, the disciplinary actions were a result of two separate incidents of fighting and gang bullying that took place on December 12, 2024, and January 18, 2025. The university’s disciplinary panel convened on January 20, 2025, to review the cases and summon the involved students.
After carefully examining the evidence, the panel, in consultation with key university officials, ruled to expel five students who were directly responsible for the incidents. In addition, five more students received suspensions of varying lengths: three were suspended for one month, while two were suspended for two weeks. The affected students have already vacated the campus.
The decision aligns with a recent address by the Chancellor, who had warned students against engaging in vices and misconduct. The Chancellor also issued a stern warning that any student found using, possessing, trafficking, or smuggling drugs on campus would face automatic expulsion.
Dan-Abia emphasized, “The verdict serves as a deterrent to other students, reminding them that respect for others and adherence to the university’s rules are non-negotiable. No student is above the rules.”
