Nigerian music star Asake has finally broken his silence regarding his striking new appearance, which includes bold face tattoos. The 30-year-old artist addressed the topic while speaking with Billboard on the red carpet at the 67th Grammy Awards, explaining that his evolving look is simply a reflection of how he feels in the moment.
“This is how I feel now. I love to feel comfortable in myself, in the things that I feel are good for me, not even about anybody,” Asake said. “I might wake up tomorrow and you guys may not see any tattoo on my face.”
The Grammy Awards, which took place on Sunday in Los Angeles, marked Asake’s debut at the prestigious event. He was nominated in the Best African Music Performance category, but the award ultimately went to fellow Nigerian artist Tems for her song Love Me Jeje.
During the red carpet interview, Asake also spoke about his outfit choice, revealing that he is currently in his “military era” and prefers to dress in a way that aligns with his state of mind. His fashion choices have always been an extension of his personality, and his Grammy ensemble was no exception.
Beyond his Grammy appearance and evolving style, rumors continue to swirl about Asake’s alleged departure from YBNL, the record label owned by Nigerian music heavyweight Olamide. While no official statement has been made, speculations about his exit have been making rounds in the industry.
Asake remains one of Nigeria’s most talked-about artists, both for his music and his ever-changing image, keeping fans and critics alike intrigued by his next move.
