Nigerian cross-dresser and social media personality, Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, found himself in custody after being arrested by the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) at the Seme Border. The controversial figure was apprehended in the early hours of Monday while attempting to flee the country, sparking widespread attention.
According to reports, Bobrisky was intercepted around 1:30 a.m. while trying to cross the border. He was immediately handed over to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) annexe in Alagbon, Lagos, where he spent Monday night under detention.
The NIS spokesperson, Kenneth Udo, confirmed Bobrisky’s arrest and described him as a “person of interest” in an ongoing investigation. “In keeping with its commitment to securing the borders, the NIS intercepted Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, at the Seme border over an attempt to exit the country,” Udo stated. He added that Bobrisky’s arrest was part of broader efforts to ensure the nation’s borders are adequately monitored and secure.
The authorities have remained tight-lipped regarding the specific reasons for Bobrisky’s arrest, though it is clear that his status as a public figure has drawn considerable attention. While speculation continues to swirl, an official statement from the FCID is expected soon to clarify the circumstances surrounding his detention.
Sources within the FCID confirmed that Bobrisky’s detention could extend beyond Monday night as investigations are still ongoing. “He was brought here last night (Monday) by the NIS, where he spent the night. We are going to get a remand today,” one official revealed, signaling that the cross-dresser may remain in custody for at least another day.
Bobrisky’s recent arrest has added to his history of run-ins with authorities, further cementing his controversial reputation in Nigeria’s public eye. As of now, he is undergoing interrogation and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further questioning.
Despite the seriousness of the situation, the NIS has reassured the public that the agency is handling the case with professionalism. “The service assures the public that it will continue to be civil and professional in its statutory responsibility of manning the country’s borders,” Udo said.
