In the 80th minute, Nicolas Jackson doubled the lead for the Blues, and although Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo pulled one back late, Chelsea held on for their fifth consecutive win.
The victory positions Chelsea as a serious contender for the title this season, with Liverpool now facing their toughest challengers, as Arsenal and Manchester City falter.
Tottenham’s Thrashing of Burnley
Tottenham’s season continued to be a rollercoaster, as they demolished Burnley 5-0 on the south coast. James Maddison opened the scoring just 36 seconds into the match, and further goals from Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski, and Pape Sarr followed in a stunning 25-minute spell. Maddison added a second deep into first-half stoppage time, leaving Tottenham with a commanding 5-0 lead at the break. The second half saw no further goals, but the victory lifted Spurs to an even seven wins and losses in their 16 matches.
