DJ Cuppy Makes History as First British-Nigerian to Host Opening Session at UNGA

Nigerian singer and DJ Florence Otedola, widely known as DJ Cuppy, has achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the first British-Nigerian to host an opening session at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). This historic event took place during the weekend and was themed “The Summit of the Future – Youth Action Day,” marking a significant moment in her illustrious career.

As the daughter of Nigerian billionaire Femi Otedola and the founder of the Cuppy Foundation, DJ Cuppy has long been a prominent figure in the entertainment industry. In a heartfelt post on her Instagram, she expressed her excitement about the event, reflecting on her previous experiences at the UNGA. “It is actually my second time DJing at the United Nations, so I must be doing something right,” she remarked. “But the coolest thing I’ve ever done is giving the opening session at the 79th UNGA.”

During her address, she took a moment to inspire the youth delegates in attendance, sharing insights from her journey. She recounted her impressive career milestones, including interning for music mogul Jay-Z, being featured twice on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list, and filming an episode of MTV Cribs. However, she emphasized that speaking at the UNGA was her proudest achievement to date.

“I may not seem that cool right now, maybe due to a couple of youth delegates, but I’ve made some pretty lady moves in my career,” she said with a smile, showcasing her charisma and determination.

Cuppy also spoke passionately about the value of education in her life. At just 30 years old, she holds three university degrees, one of which she described as possibly the most challenging, obtained from New York University (NYU). She hinted at the completion of her PhD thesis, further illustrating her commitment to academic excellence. “I value education so much that I’ve worked hard to achieve this,” she noted, encouraging young people to prioritize their educational pursuits.

DJ Cuppy’s historic role at the UNGA not only highlights her personal achievements but also serves as an inspiration for youth around the world, demonstrating that with passion and dedication, they can make a significant impact on the global stage. As she continues to break barriers in both music and philanthropy, DJ Cuppy is undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with, setting the stage for future generations to follow.
