DJ Jimmy Jatt Opens Up About His Kidney Disease and Transplant Journey

Nigerian disc jockey, DJ Jimmy Jatt, has shared a deeply personal account of his battle with chronic kidney disease and the transformative experience of undergoing a kidney transplant. During an appearance on Channels TV’s Rubbin’ Minds with Ebuka, the renowned DJ disclosed the health challenges that began in 2020, which ultimately led to life-changing medical procedures.

DJ Jimmy Jatt explained that his health troubles began after he experienced a sudden loss of sight, which required surgery to restore his vision. Reflecting on the series of events, he revealed that his decision to explore life outside of Nigeria may have contributed to the onset of his health problems. In 2019, he made the decision to spend more time abroad, seeking to experience different parts of the world, including Europe and America. However, his plans were disrupted by a series of health complications and the global travel restrictions caused by the pandemic.

The DJ described the moment his health started to decline: “I lost my sight. I had surgery and regained my sight. After that, I felt I needed to take a break and comply with my plan of living elsewhere for a while. Then I relocated to the U.S.” While in the United States, DJ Jimmy Jatt was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease and began undergoing dialysis treatment. Eventually, he returned to Nigeria, where he received a kidney transplant in 2022.

Following the success of the transplant, DJ Jimmy Jatt chose to take a step back and focus on his recovery. He spent some time outside Nigeria, continuing to DJ in the U.S. and Europe while allowing himself the necessary time to heal. He returned to Nigeria in December 2022, feeling strong and ready to re-engage with his career.

The DJ also took the opportunity to address misconceptions surrounding kidney disease. He clarified that while lifestyle choices can contribute to kidney problems, they are not always the cause. “Lifestyle is not always the cause of kidney ailments. I’ve never smoked, and I stopped drinking alcohol a long time ago. In my case, it was caused by diabetes,” he explained.

DJ Jimmy Jatt’s candidness and determination in sharing his journey continue to inspire fans and raise awareness about kidney disease, shedding light on the importance of early detection, proper medical care, and resilience in the face of health challenges.
