The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has declared its unwavering determination to overturn the outcome of the September 21, 2024, governorship election, in which the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, were declared winners. The PDP has taken its grievances to the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which resumed sitting on Monday.
This resolution was articulated in a communiqué issued after a meeting of the PDP leadership, including its governorship candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo. The communiqué, signed by Hon. Henry Tenebe, Secretary of the Edo State PDP Caretaker Committee, highlighted the party’s commitment to challenging the results through lawful and constitutional means.
The meeting, convened under the leadership of the State Caretaker Committee Chairman, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, emphasized the party’s belief that it rightfully won the election and vowed to reclaim its mandate.
The communiqué expressed gratitude to party members and supporters for their unwavering loyalty and resilience, urging them to remain steadfast as the PDP pursues justice. The party also called on its faithful to offer continued prayers and support during this challenging period.
Expressing concerns about the current state of governance in Edo under the APC-led administration, the PDP alleged that the state has experienced significant setbacks in recent months. The communiqué criticized the APC’s governance, claiming it has failed to deliver on its promises and has undermined the progress of Edo State.
Reaffirming its dedication to the rule of law and constitutional democracy, the PDP reiterated its belief in the importance of law, order, and security for the peace and development of Edo State and Nigeria.
The meeting also passed a unanimous vote of confidence in Dr. Tony Aziegbemi and Dr. Asue Ighodalo. Both leaders were commended for their exemplary leadership, which the party credited with fostering unity and progress within its ranks.
As the tribunal proceedings begin, the PDP has expressed optimism that the legal process will validate its claims and restore what it describes as the true mandate of the people of Edo State.
