Former Senator and Governorship Candidate Dino Melaye Suspended by Kogi State PDP Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities
The Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a decisive step to address the alleged anti-party activities of one of its prominent members, former Senator and governorship candidate Dino Melaye. In a move that underscores the party’s commitment to discipline and adherence to its constitution, the PDP executive committee in Ayetoro Gbede, Ward 1, has suspended Melaye from the party, effective immediately.
The suspension follows Melaye’s refusal to honor a summons to appear before a disciplinary committee set up to investigate allegations of misconduct against him. According to a memo dated September 12, 2024, Melaye was invited to attend the disciplinary committee meeting in August to address the allegations, but he failed to show up, disregarding the invitation and the authority of the party.
The memo, signed by the Ward Party Executive Committee, states that Melaye’s failure to appear before the disciplinary committee constitutes a gross disrespect to the party and its leadership. It further notes that his actions are in clear violation of the PDP Constitution and the principles of party discipline. The committee also observed that Melaye’s conduct has brought embarrassment and disrepute to the party, rendering his continued membership untenable.
In accordance with Article 59(1) of the PDP Constitution, which authorizes the Ward Party Exco to take disciplinary action against members who violate the rules, the PDP executive committee has suspended Melaye from the party. The suspension is a clear indication that the party will not tolerate any form of indiscipline or anti-party activities from its members, no matter their status or position.
This development marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts by the Kogi State PDP to address internal conflicts and ensure that its members adhere to the party’s constitution and principles. By taking decisive action against Melaye, the party has demonstrated its commitment to discipline and its determination to maintain a united front in its quest for political dominance in the state.
