A fuel tanker explosion near the Old Toll Gate in Mojoda Community, Epe Local Government Area, Lagos State, has resulted in significant disruption on the Epe-Ijebu Ode Expressway. The explosion occurred around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, with reports indicating that at least two individuals, including the tanker driver, narrowly escaped before the vehicle was engulfed in flames. The tanker, which was transporting fuel out of Lagos, exploded, causing widespread panic and forcing motorists to seek alternative routes. This led to severe traffic congestion along the expressway.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service responded promptly to the incident. Margaret Adeseye, Director of the service, confirmed the explosion and reassured the public that efforts were underway to contain the fire and prevent further damage. “The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is currently battling a fuel tanker inferno on the Epe-Ijebu Ode Expressway, near the Old Toll Gate, Mojoda, Epe, Lagos State,” she said.
Adeseye further assured that there were no vulnerable individuals at the immediate scene, other than the tanker occupant, as the situation was under control. Authorities continue to monitor the incident, urging motorists to exercise caution and follow safety instructions to avoid further accidents or delays.
The explosion serves as a reminder of the risks associated with fuel transport and the importance of timely response from emergency services to mitigate damage and ensure public safety.
