Giuliano Simeone’s double helped Atletico Madrid cruise to a 5-0 victory over Getafe on Tuesday, securing a spot in the Copa del Rey semi-finals. The young forward, son of Atletico’s coach Diego Simeone, has become an essential player for the team, and his two goals set the tone in a dominant performance from the hosts.
The match began with Atletico taking control early, with Simeone heading them in front after just eight minutes, capitalizing on a mistake by Getafe goalkeeper Jiri Letacek. His second came just nine minutes later, with Rodrigo De Paul providing the assist to double Atletico’s advantage. Although Julian Alvarez missed a chance to make it 3-0, Samuel Lino added another just before half-time, finishing off a smart turn to evade defender Juan Iglesias.
Simeone appeared to complete his hat-trick early in the second half, but his goal was ruled offside. Atletico’s dominance continued, with Angel Correa scoring the fourth from outside the box in the 78th minute and Alexander Sorloth adding a fifth late on after a clever assist from Correa.
Atletico Madrid’s convincing win propelled them into the semi-finals, where they will compete for their first Copa del Rey title since 2013. The other quarter-finals include Real Madrid visiting Leganes on Wednesday, Real Sociedad hosting Osasuna, and Barcelona facing Valencia on Thursday.
