Tyrese Haspil Sentenced to 40 Years to Life for Heinous Murder of Former Boss Fahim Saleh
In a devastating turn of events, Tyrese Haspil, a 25-year-old American man, has been sentenced to 40 years to life in prison for the brutal and premeditated murder of his former boss, Fahim Saleh, the 33-year-old founder and CEO of Nigerian transportation company Gokada. The sentencing marks the culmination of a tragic series of events that unfolded in July 2020, leaving a trail of destruction and heartbreak in its wake.
Haspil, who worked as Saleh’s executive assistant, was found guilty of first-degree murder, second-degree grand larceny, and other charges by a New York State Supreme Court jury two months ago. The conviction and subsequent sentencing serve as a testament to the tireless efforts of the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, which worked diligently to bring Haspil to justice for his heinous crimes.
According to prosecutors, Haspil had been embezzling funds from Saleh for an extended period, using a complex scheme involving fake financial statements and a PayPal account to funnel his employer’s money into his own pockets. The estimated total of the embezzlement stands at a staggering $400,000.
In a desperate attempt to avoid detection and prevent Saleh from potentially serving as a witness against him, Haspil plotted to murder his former boss on at least three separate occasions before finally carrying out the crime. The events of July 13, 2020, would prove to be the culmination of Haspil’s sinister plans.
Surveillance footage captured Haspil entering Saleh’s apartment building in Lower Manhattan, where he deployed a taser and repeatedly stabbed Saleh, resulting in his tragic death. The next day, Haspil returned to the apartment, dismembered and decapitated Saleh’s body, and placed the body parts in construction bags. The gruesome discovery was made by Saleh’s cousin, who had grown concerned after not hearing from him for 24 hours.
The subsequent investigation led police to Haspil, who was arrested four days later at an Airbnb location he had rented to celebrate his girlfriend’s birthday. The arrest marked the beginning of the end for Haspil, who would eventually face justice for his unspeakable crimes.
