The Northern Patriotic Coalition for Democracy (NPCD) has sharply criticized the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, for his recent remarks on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic policies. According to the group, Sanusi’s comments are not only misinformed but also lack the constructive input necessary for meaningful discourse on national issues.
During a press briefing in Abuja, NPCD convener Mohammed Yahaya expressed disappointment with the Emir’s criticism, labeling it as unhelpful and accusing him of prioritizing personal grievances over substantive contributions to economic policy. Yahaya suggested that Sanusi’s remarks appeared more focused on settling personal scores than addressing the real challenges facing Nigeria’s economy.
The group reiterated its unwavering support for President Tinubu’s economic reforms, which include the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of exchange rates. While acknowledging the hardships these policies have initially caused, the NPCD argued that they are critical steps toward addressing decades of economic mismanagement and positioning the country for long-term growth.
“President Tinubu has made bold moves to correct years of economic mismanagement,” Yahaya stated. “The removal of the fuel subsidy was a tough but necessary decision to free up resources for critical infrastructure and social investments.
