Nollywood actress Ini Edo has candidly shared her personal experience with infertility and the decision to choose surrogacy after struggling to carry pregnancies long-term. In a recent episode of the reality TV series Young, Famous & African, the 42-year-old actress reflected on her journey and the challenges she faced in her pursuit of motherhood.
Edo revealed that she married at 26, with plans to have children by the age of 31, but her dreams were disrupted by ongoing fertility issues. Despite facing multiple hurdles, she remained determined to become a mother. “My journey is one that I have not really been wanting to talk about because it is personal. I went through surrogacy,” she shared.
The actress disclosed that she never expected to face fertility struggles, saying she never imagined she would be someone to have difficulty carrying pregnancies. However, after numerous failed attempts, she turned to surrogacy in 2023, a decision she initially hesitated to make public. “It looked like it was not going to happen the way I wanted it to happen. So, this option came and I took it,” she explained.
Ini Edo was previously married to Philip Ehiagwina, a US-based businessman, in 2008, but the marriage ended in divorce in 2014. Despite these setbacks, Edo’s journey to motherhood has now reached a joyful conclusion, with surrogacy offering her the chance to fulfill her long-held dream of having a child.
