The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have marked the fourth anniversary of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), commending its operatives for their commitment, courage, and sacrifices in defending Biafra land. In a statement released by the group’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, IPOB expressed deep appreciation for ESN’s role in combating terrorism, protecting farmlands, and ensuring security in the southeastern region of Nigeria.
According to the statement, ESN was founded on December 12, 2020, by IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu as a response to escalating security threats, particularly from alleged terrorist activities linked to Fulani herdsmen. IPOB claimed that since its establishment, ESN has played a crucial role in reducing attacks, killings, and farm invasions that were becoming rampant in the region.
The group acknowledged the harsh conditions under which ESN operatives operate, often living in remote areas and facing dangerous encounters while carrying out their duties. They paid special tribute to those who have lost their lives in service, stating that both the living and fallen warriors continue to contribute to the fight for Biafra’s restoration.
IPOB called on Biafrans, both within Nigeria and in the diaspora, to sustain financial and moral support for ESN, emphasizing that the security outfit adheres to a strict ethical code. The group warned that any operative found violating the ESN code of conduct would face severe consequences, reiterating that the mission remains purely for protection and not for criminal activities.
Additionally, IPOB cautioned local vigilante groups and individuals accused of collaborating with security forces to target IPOB members. The group maintained its stance against land acquisitions involving Fulani herdsmen, warning of severe repercussions for those aiding abductions and killings in the region.
The statement also reinforced IPOB’s demand for the unconditional release of its detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, as well as other imprisoned members, describing their continued detention as unjust and unlawful. IPOB asserted that self-determination is not a crime under any international law and vowed to persist in its struggle until Biafrans are granted a referendum or achieve freedom through other lawful means.
Concluding the statement, IPOB called for unity, vigilance, and unwavering support for ESN as the security outfit continues to navigate future challenges in safeguarding Biafra land.
