ABUJA – In a passionate address during the 7th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Abuja, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, did not hold back in his criticism of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He asserted that the APC’s policies have exacerbated poverty and hunger in Nigeria while also struggling to effectively address the nation’s security challenges.
Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State, characterized the PDP as a “dead party,” suggesting that it is losing relevance due to internal crises. He touted the NNPP as the only political party capable of delivering genuine leadership and relief to the Nigerian populace.
“Our party has been doing so well that we, at the leadership level, are satisfied with our progress,” Kwankwaso remarked, emphasizing the rapid growth of the NNPP in contrast to the decline of the APC and PDP. He expressed pride in the party’s resilience despite facing external envy and internal challenges.
Reflecting on his previous comments during a visit to Katsina State, Kwankwaso reiterated his assertion that the PDP is disintegrating. “I remember when I mentioned that the PDP was dead, and there were many concerns within the PDP fold. I’m sure, at that time, many didn’t understand what I was saying, but now they must agree with us that the party is falling apart and imploding,” he said.
Turning his focus to the APC, Kwankwaso criticized its leadership for being “detached from reality” as citizens grapple with poverty and insecurity. He asserted, “They may believe they are doing well, but all of us, especially the voters, know they are performing poorly.”
Kwankwaso expressed gratitude that both the APC and PDP are in decline while heralding the NNPP’s ascent. “Thank God that both the APC and PDP are in decline, while our party, the NNPP, is on the rise,” he proclaimed.
Party Leadership Voices Support
Supporting Kwankwaso’s sentiments, Engineer Buba Galadima, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT), remarked that while other parties struggle, people are increasingly joining the NNPP. “There is no party growing as fast as the NNPP. Our party enforces discipline at all levels, and we follow the rules without faltering,” he stated, underscoring the leadership quality within the NNPP and suggesting that other parties are envious of its growth.
Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, the National Chairman of the NNPP, also expressed satisfaction with the party’s ongoing membership drive and the introduction of a new membership card. He urged members to obtain the new card and acknowledged the tough decisions made in restructuring the party, including the dissolution of executive committees in several states and the establishment of caretaker committees.
He called on these committees to provide strong leadership and urged all party members to maintain loyalty to the party’s leadership, emphasizing unity as key to the NNPP’s continued success.
As the NNPP positions itself as a formidable alternative to Nigeria’s dominant political parties, Kwankwaso and other leaders’ remarks reflect a sense of optimism and ambition. With a focus on discipline and effective leadership, the NNPP aims to capitalize on the perceived failures of the APC and PDP, appealing to a populace increasingly disillusioned with traditional political narratives.
