Joseph Aloba, father of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has revealed how his life experienced an unexpected turnaround following his son’s untimely death. Mohbad passed away under controversial circumstances on September 11, 2023, at the age of 26, leaving behind a legacy that continues to impact his family.
In an emotional interview with media personality Akin Abolade, also known as Mrlilgaga, Mr. Aloba recounted how divine intervention and the spirit of his late son have brought blessings his way.
“Let me just say yes, my life got better after Mohbad’s death because he is my friend,” he shared. “He had plans to do many things for me, but they didn’t allow him to. After his death, it was the spirit of Mohbad, and that of God combined together, that began to send people to assist me.”
Gifts from Compassionate Nigerians
Mr. Aloba disclosed that he has received various gifts, including a car, a truck, and other items, from well-meaning Nigerians moved by his story. He believes this generosity is guided by both his late son’s spirit and divine intervention.
“Even the car and everything I have now, it was people that gave them to me, and it is beyond ordinary. So it is the spirit of Mohbad and God that led those people to give me all I have now,” he said.
Unfulfilled Dreams and Family Struggles
Reflecting on Mohbad’s life, Mr. Aloba highlighted the challenges his son faced, including interference in his plans. He alleged that Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi, and her family had control over much of the late singer’s property, including lands meant for family purposes.
“They did a lot concerning that boy,” he lamented. “All his landed property is in their possession. Even the land he bought for me to build a church—I forced him to buy and mould the blocks on it—which was later used to bury him.”
Mr. Aloba revealed that Mohbad had planned to buy him a house after completing his tour. Tragically, the purchase, which was already paid for, could not be finalized before the singer’s death.
A Father’s Journey
Mr. Aloba reflected on how Mohbad’s birth marked a pivotal point in his life. Following the theft of money collected during Mohbad’s naming ceremony, he became a singer. Interestingly, Mohbad started serving as his backup singer from the tender age of one.
Although a carpenter, singer, and pastor without a physical church, Mr. Aloba said Mohbad had promised to build him a church before his untimely demise.
Moving Forward with Music
Since the tragic loss of his son, Mr. Aloba has channeled his grief into creating music, releasing nine tracks. He continues to receive support from compassionate Nigerians, who have rallied around him during this challenging period.
Mohbad’s legacy, though cut short, continues to inspire and bring hope to those he left behind, especially his father, whose life has been profoundly transformed in unexpected ways.
