Mojisola Meranda has officially taken office as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, marking a significant moment in the state’s political landscape. In response to the ongoing political upheaval and to ensure a smooth and peaceful session, security around the Lagos State House of Assembly has been bolstered. A notice from the Acting Clerk of the House, Taiwo Ottun, was issued, informing all staff and legislative aides that they must present valid identity cards to gain access to the premises. The notice emphasized that entry would be denied to anyone without proper identification, underlining the importance of security in maintaining order.
Additionally, the Lagos State Police Command has reassured the public of its commitment to maintaining peace outside the premises of the Assembly and throughout the state. In an interview on Sunday, Commissioner of Police Ishola Olawale stressed that while the police had no business inside the Assembly itself, it was their responsibility to ensure calm and prevent any disruptions around the vicinity and beyond.
