Nigeria Customs Service Receives Over Half a Million Applications for 2024/2025 Recruitment

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reported a significant surge in applications for its 2024/2025 recruitment exercise, receiving 573,519 applications for just 3,927 available positions. This comes just a week after the recruitment portal was opened.

The Federal Government had previously approved the recruitment of 3,927 officers to strengthen the NCS workforce. Abdullahi Maiwada, the National Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the NCS, shared the breakdown of applicants by category.

For the general duty positions, which are divided into three ranks, the superintendent cadre has attracted the highest number of applicants, with 249,218 individuals vying for the roles. The superintendent cadre for support staff, requiring higher qualifications such as HNDs and university degrees, has received 27,722 applications.

The inspector cadre, which demands qualifications such as a National Certificate in Education (NCE) or a National Diploma, has drawn 115,634 applicants for general duty and 12,952 for support staff roles.

For the customs assistant cadre, which requires a secondary school certificate, there are two categories: applicants with a minimum of five credits, including Mathematics and English, and those without the two subjects. In the general duty category, 153,593 individuals have applied, while 14,400 applications have been submitted for the support staff positions.

The overwhelming number of applications highlights the high demand for the limited job opportunities at the Nigeria Customs Service.
