A Nigerian woman residing in the UK has made an urgent plea for help after a series of events led to her children being removed by social services and her husband’s arrest. The ordeal, which began on December 3, 2024, has left her devastated and seeking assistance from Nigerian authorities.
In an interview, she shared that her daughter, who had been a concern for her for some time, made a troubling disclosure about her husband to her school. This led to his arrest on the same day, but by December 8, 2024, the daughter had retracted her statement. Despite this retraction, social services intervened, and on December 12, 2024, the woman was given a letter instructing her to appear in court. Later that day, her children were removed from her care.
The decision to remove her children left the woman heartbroken, and she began supervised contact with them. However, her situation worsened when a social worker accused her of whispering to her daughter and intimidating her, leading to her own arrest on January 6, 2025. She was subsequently bailed, prohibited from seeing her children.
Adding to her distress, the police confiscated her phones and laptop, further isolating her. She expressed frustration over the lack of support, claiming unfair treatment by Durham police and social workers. Unable to communicate with her husband or children, she reached out for help from Nigerian authorities, explaining that she had no contacts at the Nigerian High Commission or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to turn to.
The woman also highlighted her previous concerns about her daughter’s behavior, which she had raised with the school, but she felt that her concerns were not adequately addressed. This case has sparked significant discussion within Nigerian communities in the UK and beyond, with many sympathizing with her plight and questioning the fairness of how the situation has been handled.
In her plea, she urged, “Please come to my rescue,” as she navigates the overwhelming challenges she faces, feeling abandoned by those she hoped would offer support.
