Supporters of the Obidient Movement in Delta State have regrouped in Asaba to reignite their quest for a better Nigeria and challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections. At a recent conference titled “Reawakening and Harmonizing Obidient Movement for a New Nigeria,” prominent voices called for renewed vigor in the movement, emphasizing the urgent need for progressive leadership and national transformation.
A Call for Change and Better Governance
The movement, which gained traction in the 2023 elections under the leadership of Peter Obi, expressed dissatisfaction with the current APC-led federal government. Leaders and participants at the conference accused the administration of poor governance, economic mismanagement, and failing to meet the needs of ordinary Nigerians. The sentiment was clear: Nigeria deserves better leadership.
Prof. Pat Utomi, speaking virtually, stressed that good governance remains the cornerstone of the movement’s vision. He urged members to stay committed to the cause and continue pushing for a leadership that prioritizes the welfare of the people.
The Urgency of Preparation for 2027
Prof. Chris Nwaokobia delivered a powerful keynote address, highlighting the critical need to begin preparations for the 2027 elections immediately. He painted a bleak picture of the current state of the nation, citing widespread hunger, economic instability, and leadership confusion:
“Hunger is everywhere, anger is in the streets, and leadership has lost its way. The government doesn’t know what to do with the economy. It’s time for the Obidient Movement to create a stronger, more organized front for 2027.”
Nwaokobia emphasized that the failures of the current administration only make the movement’s message more urgent and relevant. He called on members to network, organize, and build a formidable structure capable of bringing about lasting change.
Nigeria’s Untapped Potential
Chief Chris Biose, Chairman of the Delta Obidient Elders Council, expressed concern over Nigeria’s inability to harness its vast resources effectively. He pointed out the irony of a country with a population of over 200 million and abundant agricultural land, yet struggling with hunger and poverty.
Biose criticized past and present leaders for mismanaging the country’s potential and praised the Obidient Movement’s efforts in the 2023 elections:
“Nigerians are hungry not because we lack resources, but because leadership has failed. It’s time to focus on production over consumption and prioritize the welfare of the masses.”
He encouraged members to channel their disappointment into action and prepare to replicate the momentum of the 2023 elections with even greater determination in 2027.
Rebuilding for a New Nigeria
The conference emphasized the need for a self-reliant Nigeria, where resources are managed for the benefit of all citizens, not just a privileged few. Biose outlined the steps needed to achieve this vision, calling for discipline, clear planning, and persistent efforts:
“Obidients have a historic duty to build a New Nigeria. This requires a clear vision, practical plans, and the courage to see them through. The electorate is still eager for change, and we must reignite their passion.”
The movement pledged to continue its grassroots mobilization efforts, focusing on engaging citizens and spreading awareness about their vision for a better Nigeria.
