French striker Olivier Giroud, who plays for Major League Soccer club Los Angeles FC, has reportedly fallen victim to a burglary, with thieves allegedly making away with jewellery worth about $500,000. According to TMZ, the break-in occurred on February 5, and it was Giroud’s wife who discovered a shattered window at their home, prompting the report to law enforcement.
Among the stolen items were more than 10 luxury men’s watches, as well as several other valuables. The Los Angeles Police Department has since launched an investigation, but no arrests have been made so far.
Giroud, a former Arsenal, Chelsea, and AC Milan striker, is well known for his contributions to French football. The 38-year-old, who helped France win the 2018 FIFA World Cup and is the national team’s all-time top scorer, joined LAFC last year. He played a key role in the club’s US Open Cup title win in 2024.
The burglary adds Giroud to a growing list of high-profile athletes in the United States who have recently suffered similar incidents. Other victims include Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Ty Jerome, and Atlanta Falcons cornerback Antonio Hamilton. Some of these break-ins have notably coincided with the victims’ games being aired on national television, raising concerns about targeted robberies.
Authorities are continuing their investigations into the case, but as of now, the burglars remain unidentified.
