The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has launched a fierce attack on the All Progressives Congress (APC), labeling it a “party of political vampires” that feeds on the suffering of Nigerians. This strong condemnation was articulated by Debo Ologunagba, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, during a press briefing in Abuja. Ologunagba accused the APC of being a coalition of power-grabbers, treasury looters, and manipulators whose primary interest lies in seizing Nigeria’s resources and leaving citizens in distress.
In his statement, Ologunagba underscored the hardships currently faced by many Nigerians, asserting that the APC’s policies have exacerbated these issues. He remarked, “The APC’s attacks on Governor Makinde confirm that they are jittery as their days are numbered,” referring to the ongoing criticisms aimed at Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, who has been vocal about the economic struggles experienced under the APC administration.
The PDP described the APC’s attacks on Makinde as “reckless, insensitive, and an arrogant display of failure.” Ologunagba went on to assert that the Nigerian populace has seen through the “lies, manipulations, and suppressive policies” of the APC, which he claims reveal a clear incompetence in governance. He praised Governor Makinde as a credible and effective leader, pointing to his various developmental projects that aim to improve the lives of the people in Oyo State.
Highlighting the collective efforts of PDP governors, Ologunagba emphasized their commitment to fostering development and democracy, while also resisting what he perceives as the APC’s attempts to monopolize Nigeria’s political landscape. He expressed outrage at the APC’s recent claim that the country is “on the cusp of prosperity,” describing this assertion as absurd given the prevailing issues of insecurity, economic hardship, and failing infrastructure that have emerged during the APC’s tenure.
Ologunagba further criticized the economic decline under APC rule, providing stark comparisons to previous years of PDP governance. He noted that the Naira, which was valued at N168 to the Dollar during the PDP’s administration, now exchanges for nearly N2,000 per Dollar. He highlighted the dramatic rise in fuel prices, from N87 per liter to over N1,500, and the skyrocketing costs of basic food items, such as rice, which has surged from N8,000 to over N100,000. These alarming figures, according to Ologunagba, underscore the negative impact of APC policies on everyday Nigerians.
The PDP spokesperson also accused APC leaders of misusing national resources to fund their extravagant lifestyles while ordinary citizens grapple with unprecedented economic challenges. He suggested that the APC’s recent personal attacks and efforts to manipulate data reflect a sense of desperation as the 2027 elections approach.
In a decisive conclusion, Ologunagba called on the APC to acknowledge its failures and prepare for an exit from power in February 2027. He expressed confidence that the PDP, with the support of the Nigerian people, would end the APC’s political journey, consigning it to “political oblivion.” This confrontation highlights the ongoing political tension in Nigeria, as the PDP seeks to position itself as a viable alternative in the face of widespread discontent with the current administration.
