PDP Denies Allegations of N12B Transfer by Edo Governor

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has strongly refuted allegations made by Governor Sen. Monday Okpebholo regarding a supposed N12 billion transfer from suspended local government chairmen to certain party chieftains within 15 months. In a statement issued by the Chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee, Hon. Tony Azeigbemi, the party dismissed the governor’s claims as unfounded and false.

Azeigbemi accused Okpebholo of using the baseless allegation to justify his actions against the elected local government chairmen. He further challenged the governor to provide proof to substantiate his claims, suggesting that Okpebholo had likely made an error in his financial statements.

The PDP emphasized the autonomy of local governments, reminding the governor that they are constitutionally recognized as the third tier of government, independent of state influence. The party also criticized Okpebholo for lacking a clear developmental agenda for the state, describing him as an unprepared politician with a poor grasp of governance.

The statement called on the governor to focus on serving the people of Edo State instead of pursuing personal interests that could destabilize the state’s peace and security.
