The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed deep sympathy for the victims of the devastating petrol tanker explosion that claimed over 85 lives and left many injured at Dikko Junction along the Dikko-Maje Minna Road in Niger State.
Speaking in Abuja on Monday, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, lamented the tragedy and attributed it to the poor state of Nigeria’s infrastructure and the economic hardship caused by the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.
“This disaster is part of the tragic trend of avoidable incidents that have plagued our nation, exacerbated by the APC’s failure to prioritize the welfare of Nigerians. Our youths and breadwinners continue to perish due to the deplorable conditions of our highways,” Ologunagba said.
The PDP urged the Federal Government to go beyond investigating the immediate and underlying causes of this tragedy by taking decisive action to improve road safety and prevent future occurrences. Ologunagba emphasized that merely offering condolences and promises is inadequate and called for tangible measures to ensure safer roads across the country.
He commended the bravery and efforts of first responders, including the police, firefighters, the Federal Road Safety Corps, and local volunteers, who worked tirelessly to manage the fire and rescue victims.
The PDP extended its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, as well as the government and people of Niger State. The party prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and comfort for the grieving families, urging the government to provide support during this difficult time.
The tragic incident serves as a somber reminder of the urgent need to address Nigeria’s infrastructure challenges and prioritize citizens’ safety to prevent further loss of lives.
