The Police Service Commission (PSC) has made significant disciplinary decisions following its second plenary meeting. Two Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) have been dismissed and will face prosecution for various offenses, including misconduct, dishonesty, corruption, sabotage, and actions unbecoming of public officers.
In addition to the dismissals, six other officers have been demoted. Among them, two Superintendents of Police have been reduced to the rank of Deputy Superintendents, one Deputy Superintendent to Assistant Superintendent, and three Assistant Superintendents now hold the rank of Inspector. These actions stem from related offenses.
The PSC also imposed severe reprimands on ten senior officers found guilty of unauthorized disclosure of official secrets, dishonesty, and sabotage, among other infractions. Nine other officers received reprimands, while a Deputy Commissioner of Police was exonerated after being found not guilty. One Assistant Superintendent of Police was given a formal warning.
Police Promotions Approved
As part of its meeting, the Commission also handled matters of police promotions, with several senior officers receiving advancements. Eleven Commissioners of Police were promoted to Assistant Inspectors General of Police, 16 Deputy Commissioners to Commissioners, 21 Assistant Commissioners to Deputy Commissioners, and 57 Chief Superintendents to Assistant Commissioners.
Among the promoted officers were Obi-Ejoh Nnamdi Patrick, formerly the Commander of the Anti-Narcotics section at the FCT Command, now serving in Kaduna, and Milicent Amadi, the Officer in Charge of Surveillance at the State CID Ebonyi Command. The promotion also affected the Police Public Relations Officer for Enugu State Command, Daniel Ndukwe, who was promoted from Deputy Superintendent to Superintendent.
Commission’s Focus on Discipline
DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), Chairman of the PSC, emphasized that maintaining discipline within the Nigeria Police Force is essential for effective law enforcement and the protection of citizens’ lives and property. He assured that the Commission would continue to address Pending Disciplinary Matters (PDM) promptly, ensuring no officer is unjustly stagnant in their career.
The decisions made by the Commission have been communicated to the Inspector General of Police for immediate implementation.
