President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to stabilizing the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and fostering peace across Africa. He made this statement during the closing ceremony of the 2024 African Military Games in Abuja, as reported by Mr. Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice-President.
Represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu emphasized his administration’s dedication to addressing security threats and violent crimes in Nigeria. As the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, he expressed his resolve to strengthen ties among African countries to promote camaraderie among the continent’s military forces. This unity, he believes, is essential for achieving regional and continental prosperity.
Tinubu highlighted the significance of the 2nd African Military Games, marking two decades since the last edition, stressing that the event plays a vital role in fostering the spirit of friendship and cooperation among African militaries. He also underlined the importance of physical fitness for military personnel, noting that their physical, mental, and emotional well-being is crucial for adapting to the complexities of the modern world.
In his closing remarks, the President congratulated participants for their conduct and sportsmanship, acknowledging the professionalism displayed throughout the games. He also praised the smooth organization of the event, which he deemed an achievement that all Africans can take pride in.
Earlier, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Christopher Musa commended the participants, noting that the games had been a source of unity and inspiration for the Nigerian Armed Forces and the broader African military community.
