Remo Stars Continue Unstoppable Run in Nigeria Premier Football League

In an impressive display of skill and determination, last season’s runners-up, Remo Stars, maintained their perfect record in the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League with a decisive 2-0 victory over Kano Pillars in Katsina on Sunday. This win marks their third consecutive triumph this season, solidifying their status as a team to watch.

Key Performers Shine

The match, held at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, saw right-back Sodiq Ismail and Togolese striker Frank Mawuena find the back of the net, contributing crucial goals in each half. Sodiq opened the scoring in the 26th minute, netting his second goal of the season and setting the tone for Remo’s performance.

Despite entering the match with momentum from a previous draw against Bayelsa, Kano Pillars struggled to find their rhythm. After a lackluster first half, they faced further challenges when Mawuena doubled Remo’s lead in the 60th minute, leaving the home side with little room to maneuver.

A Tough Day for Home Teams

While Remo Stars celebrated their victory, matchday three of the NPFL proved challenging for home teams across the league. In Jos, Plateau United succumbed to a 2-1 defeat against Niger Tornadoes. Tornadoes took an early lead in the 19th minute through Ifeanyi Okechukwu, followed by a second goal from Kufe Ebong in stoppage time. Although Sam Pam Jnr scored a consolation goal for Plateau, it was not enough to change the outcome.

Meanwhile, both Sunshine Stars versus Abia Warriors and Heartland against Katsina United ended in goalless draws, highlighting the difficulties faced by home sides on the day.

Nasarawa United’s Rollercoaster Thriller

In a dramatic encounter in Lafia, Nasarawa United experienced a wild game against El-Kanemi Warriors, losing 4-3 despite a remarkable hat-trick from Anas Yusuf. The high-scoring match showcased the offensive talents of both teams, but ultimately, El-Kanemi’s clinical finishing proved decisive.

Earlier, Rivers United managed to secure a 1-0 victory over Lobi Stars, with former Super Eagles coach Finidi George steering the team to another three points in their campaign.

Looking Ahead

As the season progresses, Remo Stars stand out as the only team with a perfect record, indicating their ambitions for the title. With consistent performances from key players and strong tactical management, they are positioning themselves as serious contenders in the league.

The league continues to unfold with excitement, and fans are eager to see how the dynamics will shift in the coming matches as teams vie for supremacy in Nigeria’s top football division.
