According to a competent security operative, the Department of State Services (DSS) has collaborated with the Army, Nigerian Air Force, and other security agencies to achieve significant successes in combating insecurity in Nigeria. The operative revealed that the DSS, acting in concert with sister security agencies, arrested a top commander of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPoB) in Ebonyi State. The arrested commander, whose name has not been disclosed, was found to be actively recruiting mercenaries in preparation for a major attack on Ebonyi and other South East states.
The operative disclosed that the arrest was made possible through credible intelligence, which confirmed the commander’s active involvement in the coordination of IPoB activities in Ebonyi State. The DSS, in collaboration with the military, apprehended the commander on September 9, 2024, following intelligence that confirmed his involvement in the recruitment of mercenaries for further attacks in the region.
During the arrest, no fewer than 600 rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition, among other dangerous weapons, were recovered from the notorious IPoB fighter. The operative emphasized that the arrest has dealt a significant blow to the activities of IPoB in the region and has prevented a major attack on innocent citizens.
In a separate operation, the DSS collaborated with the Nigerian Air Force and other agencies to neutralize Boko Haram terrorists and bandits who attacked Bassa-Kukoki village in Allawa district of Shiroro Local Government of Niger State on Wednesday. The operative disclosed that while many of the terrorists and bandits were killed in the operation, three members of the community were killed by fleeing bandits. However, no personnel of the security agency was killed during the operation.
Furthermore, the Delta State command of the DSS intercepted a wooden barge containing approximately 37,000 liters of stolen crude oil. Five suspects connected to the incident were also arrested during the operation and are being investigated and profiled for necessary prosecution.
The security operative emphasized that the DSS is committed to tackling increasing threats to national security in collaboration with sister agencies and will not allow terrorists and other mercenaries to cause mayhem in the country. The operative assured that the DSS will continue to work tirelessly to protect the lives and properties of Nigerian citizens and prevent any form of insecurity in the country.
