Tinubu Shifts Focus to Economic Restructuring, Downplays 2027 Election Ambitions at APC South-West Assembly

President Bola Tinubu recently emphasized that his focus is on restructuring the Nigerian economy rather than on the 2027 general elections, during the 2024 South West Assembly of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Despite growing support from key party figures for his potential re-election, Tinubu made it clear that his priority is economic reform aimed at benefiting the Nigerian people.

The assembly, hosted by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, brought together a broad spectrum of APC leaders and stakeholders from the South-West. This included prominent figures such as former APC National Chairman Chief Bisi Akande, former Ogun State Governor Aremo Olusegun Osoba, as well as the governors of Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti States—Dapo Abiodun, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and Biodun Oyebanji, respectively. All expressed support for Tinubu’s leadership and endorsed his success and the success of the APC in the 2027 elections.

In his keynote address, former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi praised Tinubu as a “listening leader” who remains committed to achieving success for the nation. Tinubu, represented by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, reassured the assembly that his administration is dedicated to bringing genuine progress to Nigerians. He also urged the public to be patient with the reforms his government is implementing.

This assembly, the first since Tinubu’s 2023 Presidential victory, also served as a platform for discussing critical issues regarding the development of the APC in the South-West Zone. The meeting was a demonstration of party unity and support, especially in the region that played a significant role in Tinubu’s electoral success.
