Nigerian Comedienne Shares Personal Story of Attempted Suicide and Recovery
In observance of World Suicide Prevention Day, Nigerian comedienne Anita Asuoha, also known as Real Warri Pikin, shared a personal and poignant story of her attempted suicide in 2018. Asuoha revealed that she had been struggling financially and was burdened by a debt of N22 million, which led her to feel overwhelmed and hopeless.
In a video posted on her Instagram page, Asuoha explained that her husband had been motivated by a motivational speaker to pursue various business ventures, but unfortunately, these endeavors only led to further financial strain. Despite her best efforts, Asuoha felt like she had reached a breaking point and attempted to take her own life on June 6, 2018.
Fortunately, a family member intervened at the right moment, saving her life. Asuoha reflected on this experience, urging her fans not to resort to suicide when faced with challenges. She emphasized that life is full of seasons and phases, and that with faith and perseverance, one can overcome even the toughest obstacles.
Asuoha’s story highlights her journey with depression and how it led her to discover her comedic talent. In 2019, she revealed that depression had pushed her into comedy, and she began creating videos to motivate and inspire others through humor.
